I first became fascinated by charisma when I was eighteen and witnessed a charismatic barrister make legal history in an unprecedented court case at The Old Bailey. In that moment I recognised that charisma has the power to transform lives and gives speakers a strong competitive advantage. Charisma is an authentic power that captivates the hearts and minds of others. When you are being you and you love what you do, you shine in your own unique way. The most inspiring and mesmerising speakers are those who are authentic and driven to speak because it is their innate purpose. Their natural charisma touches people at their core. But how can you shine online?

Here are 3 of my favourite tips: Write as ‘you’ not about you.
Here are 3 of my favourite tips: –
Write as ‘you’ not about you. ‘Nikki Owen is an award-winning speaker’ or ‘ I’ve been fascinated with charisma since I was eighteen’ The first statement to me feels egocentric and cold. Who really cares about the awards i’ve won! When I read about you I want to know what drives you during your darkest moments. Who are you really and why do you speak about the subject you do? Let your personality come through. If you are overly worried about what other people think then you immediately contain your natural energy that impacts on the words and visuals you use.
Use video and scrap the autocue. When you connect with people on screen it’s ok to fluff your words a bit and to break your direct ‘to camera’ gaze. These overly produced video productions ( I’ve done them myself in the past) just doesn’t evoke an emotional response. When a speaker is too perfect, too eloquent, too rehearsed, their energy feels cold and this sabotages their ability to emotionally move and engage at a deep level.
Bring your own unique perspective. The speaker who talks about many different topics will never be truly charismatic. If you’re not rebelliously obsessive about your message, how can you excite the interest of anyone? It’s your uniqueness that makes your message unique. If you reflect on your life’s most significant moments both good and bad then you’ll see that every event has helped you transcend to a higher version of you. Every hardship you have endured contains a truth that will enliven the message that only you can convey.
